Was totally unsure of what to call today's post and I by no means am calling anyone out in this. I just want to share my thoughts on IG so they can stop rattling around in my brain and finally be on paper.
SHOP MY LOOK HERE:
Halogen: Bow Back Sweater (runs a size large) / AG: Farrah High Waist Skinny Jeans / Chloe: Eileen Wedge Boot / Calvin Klein: Wool and Down Coat (currently 50% off!) / Topshop: Beanie (old; similar) / BaubleBar: Mini Monogam Necklace / David Yurman: Pearl Earrings / Apple: Apple Watch (review) / Invisibobble: Hair Ties
Quick pop in to talk about my look -- this sweater is made by the same company as the one I'm wearing in this post but are totally different materials! The one above is much thicker and softer and runs bigger (I'm wearing a M above), with that it's a touch more expensive but out of the two I would for sure go with this one!
I'll also be posting about my desk space soon but the major items are linked here: Desk Chair / Desk (similar) / Bookshelf from Ikea
And one last thing! This jacket is amazzzziinnnggg. Great for a stylish but warm coat (since it's wool and down). I also love the light color but it also comes in black if you want. It's 50% off today so steal it while you can!
So on to the Instagram algorithm...
How boring it must be... to be just like everyone else. Scroll through your explore page and see whats up. It's just soooo boooorrrrriiiinnnnnggggg. Same clothes, same hair, same pose -- why do you want to be like everyone else? Is it the key to success? Are we shallow enough to fall for the trap of basic? Or can we look for those that inspire, educate, love, listen and grow? No hate to anyone because if you work hard you deserve all the success in the world! I just wish to inspire people to be their own you. No one can do you better than you can!
Waiting for the photoshop trend to... dieeeeee a quick (but not painful, because I'm nice) death. We are stepping so far from reality that we almost can't turn back. I'm all for inspiration but it's just getting to be too much. We'll edit ourselves, the water, the sky, the window, adding in things that aren't there... anything just for an extra like? But why? When did this trend start? And more importantly, when will it stop?
Only following people who... make me feel good. Don't follow just to hate, to snark, or to be envious because who is that helping at the end of the day? There were a handful of people that I thought I had to follow that I just hated following so one day I made the decision to go through and unfollow anyone who didn't bring something positive to my life. And guess what, it felt great!
Taking the "instant" out and making it... over edited! I think one of my biggest pet peeves are the over edited/text animated/took 5 minutes to create Instagram Stories. I know its a big trend and maybe I'm totally missing the boat on the success of these but man as a follower and fan I hate it. Especially on Instagram stories, I want to see real time moments. I think the fact that we're able to edit and upload to stories is awesome but we might have taken it a step in the wrong direction.
The Instagram algorithm does not measure success... There are just so many other factors but we always go back to Instagram because numbers are first and foremost on the platform. I lose followers everyday but my traffic, commission and engagement are all up. So what does that really mean in terms of valuing my success vs the amount of people who follow me?
Putting all your eggs in a basket you don't own is... one of the worst things you can do. Look at businesses/influencers on Facebook, Pinterest, hell even on IG! When the platform dictates your following, your engagement, your success and can take it away at ANY moment. That's when you have yourself in a bad situation. Sure the "blogger" trend might be fading and shifting more toward influencer, but at the end of the day those bloggers have one thing that no one can take from them and that is their site.
Instagram Stories... are a lot of fun! I will totally admit that I LOVE to Instagram story with you guys. I have a blast every time I pop on. Connecting and talking with each of you is (I'll admit) time consuming but some really great relationships and bonds have come from it. I believe if you have a platform you should help to make the world a better place.
My followers are... some of the best people out there. I may be biased but the daily messages of support and love and advice I get from you guys are truly heart warming. I think day after day the inspiration you give and the time you take to send me messages are the best. You guys ROCK and I don't know any way to repay you other than just keep being me, keep the conversation going and open up more so you know you are not alone (in the good and the bad times).
So thanks for following along, reading and supporting myself and those around me everyday! I will see you all tomorrow.
