Recreating My Favorite Fall Look

I think we can all agree that this post was the best of my fall looks from last year. I actually posted it almost exactly one year ago ... crazy! I loved it so much I made it my profile picture on Instagram lol. It was so very me and everything I want my outfits to embody: classic and preppy with a little twist of trendy.

Ralph Lauren: Knit Double Breasted Navy Blazer (rented via RTR; also available here) / J. Crew: Cable Knit Sweater in Everyday Cashmere/ Modcloth: Houndstooth Skirt (more size options here) / Stuart Weitzman: Over the Knee Boots (old; similar here) / Celine: Nano Luggage / Tuckernuck: Gold Birdcage Earrings

You guys know how I love to wear skirts during the fall months, this year, last year and all the years to come. There is something about it that I LOVE! Inadvertently, I put this outfit together to wear and realized it was very reminiscent of one from last year, which just goes to show that I have the same taste now as I did then.

That post was also super special because I got to work with Ralph Lauren for it and that's my dream collaboration. Yes, their items are very expensive but the quality is there! Plus there are other ways to get some Ralph Lauren items without spending Ralph Lauren money...

Rent the Runway Unlimited has now started to carry some new RL items which I'm all for and I was able to snag this knit blazer when it came out on the site. Pro tip: sort by new arrivals on your RTR app every week and "favorite" your favorites. They add new items almost daily! It's a tad too expensive for me to buy currently, but I am long term renting it via unlimited (which just means I'm not returning it any time soon lol). It's basically mine for now.

As for my skirt, I found a very affordable option to last year's look with this houndstooth skirt from Modcloth. It's currently 40% off, making it $35 (originally $59) and goes up to size 28 which is awesome. It's a great skirt to have in your closet because of all the colors in the pattern. They go with just about anything!

I snagged this sweater from J. Crew to see how it compares to my other cashmere cable knits and I have to say I'm pretty impressed! Cashmere of this quality will usually run you a LOT more money. It's even better if you can find this on sale during one of their promotions! It runs a size large (I think) and am wearing a small.

My boots are sadly very old (sad because they are my favorite!!) and I don't even know the style name or where they're sold currently so I instead looked for a more affordable option to share. They look pretty similar to mine in terms of color, heel, toe, and height! And they are under $100 so it doesn't hurt to try them out. I actually had a reader message me the other day asking about OTK boots and if they're still "in" because she was thinking about investing.

I told her to test run a more affordable pair and see how she liked them. If you're wearing them a lot and like the look but want something that will hold up longer, invest in the more expensive boot. I do this a lot with high price items -- find a similar style and see how often you'll wear them. It's a good way to give something a test run before spending your money.
