Island Oyster - Summer in NYC

Happy (almost) summer Friday! The weather is starting to get really hot in the city and there no better time to find a shaded bar by the water... ideally with some fantastic views!

Very excited to start a new series on the blog this summer... Please welcome the first Summer in NYC post! Since I have a more open schedule, I want to really take advantage of it and bring better content. One thing I've been seriously missing: more New York City guides! I've lived here now for 6 years I think it's about time lol.

My plan this summer is to take you along, via blog AND vlog(!!), to all the great summer spots New York has to offer. Summer in the city is one of the best times to be here (I would say the holidays are the best) and I'd love to put together something fun for you guys to have if you ever find yourself here!

So starting out, we're at Island Oyster! Island Oyster is a waterside bar on Governors Island. Governors Island is a short (like 10 minutes) ferry from the southernmost tip of New York City. It's seriously the quickest little popover ride from the Battery Marrytime Building. The ferry has weekday and weekend schedules that range from every hour to every 20 minutes, and the cost is $3 roundtrip for adults 12 + over -- and FREE if you ride on the weekends before noon.

Once you're on the island, turn right, and you find yourself at Island Oyster. The most ideal, colorful, and picturesque place with the best view of downtown! Grab a drink at the bar, lounge around the area surrounded by empty shipping containers, or grab a spot under an umbrella to have a bite to eat.

The mocktails are delicious, but their food is where it's at. I ordered the mac and cheese, french fries, oysters, and lobster roll, and it did not disappoint. If you're into seafood, this is your place. If it's not as much your style, they also have some American style food on the menu for our land lovers.

The staff is friendly and sometimes slow, but it helps you enjoy the experience of the place more. You're really there to just eat, relax, and enjoy some killer views.
