On Saturday we had the most amazing weather that I couldn't help but not stay outside all day. I finally took advantage (after two years) of the sun deck we have in our building that over looks the Hudson river. I laid out long enough to finish a book and start a new one and I felt revitalized! It was 73 and sunny and I don't think I could have been happier.

With that new weather came the itch to spring clean my apartment. I decided on Sunday to switch over my wardrobe completely, get rid of things I no longer wear, clean out my desk, makeup bins, linen closet, etc.

I had a very productive weekend outside the fact that it is now close to snowing again today and I've gotten rid of everything that would keep me warm lol.

For a blogger (and in general, a girl) I find that I'm pretty good at getting rid of stuff every couple months. I didn't always used to be this way but living in New York you really don't have a choice. It's either drown in a clutter of things or clean it out and be happy.

So while I'm no expert on the topic, I thought I would give you guys some helpful Spring cleaning tips if you're also trying to do the same!

5 SPRING CLEANING TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW

1. Narrow Your Focus -- rule #1 is to not take on too much all at once. It will be completely overwhelming and will make it harder to get things done. I always like to start with the biggest issue first: clothes. I go though my closet and collect all the clothing in the apartment and start from there. I don't even look at my shoes until the clothes are done. Just do one thing at a time! Do the closet, then under the bed, then the line closet, the dresser, the shoes etc.

2. Complete Before You Move On -- I'm probably the worst about this due to my ADHD but don't start a new project until you're done with the first. It's too much to take on and eventually one of the things you're working on will fall by the way side. Do ALL the clothes at once (in every room), ALL the papers at once.. things like that. If there is something that is misplaced just add it to the pile in the other room and continue with what you're doing.

3. Go Room By Room -- I like to tackle one room at a time and I usually start with my bedroom because it's usually the messiest. I clean up and out everything in that room (the bed, the closet, the dresser, etc) and move on to another room after that is final and done. It makes it easier this way because more than likely you wont be able to get everything done in a day (if you really deep clean) and at least you will have something done rather than parts of different places done. It's also motivating and you feel better when your bedroom is clean!

4. Try On Your Stuff -- This goes for things you wear when it's time to get rid of items. Try on your clothes and your shoes. See what fits, what makes you feel good and happy and what is ready to be out of the closet. You always think of it differently when it's on the hanger but it's a different story when it's on your body. It's an easy way to pull the trigger and get rid of something. Also if you haven't worn it in a year or it doesn't fit -- throw it away! Thank it for the memories and get it outta here.

5. Donate -- One of the best parts of cleaning out the apartment is the donation pile. You probably have some great items that you don't want to just throw away so its time to give it to a new home! There are so many great places to donate (and ways to donate) currently that you're really able to help make a difference in someones life. I personally like to pick women's shelters and organizations like dress for success but it's totally up to you and who you want to support!

PS if you want to really get good at cleaning out, I HIGHLY recommend this book! It is LIFE-CHANGING
