I've been to Nantucket for years but this past visit was the first time I found myself at Great Point Lighthouse. If you look at Nantucket on a map, Great Point is located on the northermost point of the island on a thin part of sand with the Atlantic on one side and the Nantucket Sound on the other.
The only way to get there is via Jeep (or approved 4-wheel cars) and its about a 5 mile drive completely on sand. There's a checkpoint where you enter, pay a daily fee and let the air out of your tires. On your way out, you pass a couple houses, hit a lot of bumps of sand and then you actually drive on the beach the rest of the way out.
You drive to mile 4, park your car and walk the rest of the way (another mile till you hit the lighthouse). We left our shoes in the car and started walking! It was such a cool experience that I feel not a lot of people do. I mean the beach itself -- the entire 5 miles out -- had no more than 10 people on it. It would be the perfect place to spend the day.
I wore my new Saint James shirt for the trip out there. It's a new addition to the closet but a long awaited one! I have been on the hunt for a red and white stripe top for summer (since last summer). Not a white shirt with red stripes (which I have a lot of), a red shirt with white stripes. Does that make sense?
This one fits perfectly and it's actually the Garde Cote III which is Saint James' polyamide meryl fabric (which protects against UV rays, is stretchy and form fitting). It's one of the most comfortable shirts I own! Perfect for a beach day and an awesome transition into night -- I switched out the shorts for a linen skirt at dinner. This will not be the last time you see this shirt!
