What I Watched on Netflix in May + June

Not to brag, but I have been crushing it lately with Netflix lol. I've been painting in the afternoons, and it's been great to watch these as a break between work and dinner. And then the weekends ... hello binging and needlepointing!! So I wanted to share what I watched these last two months since my last Netflix post!

TV SHOWS:

Dead to Me (season 2) -- I was a little worried how they were going to make this season work, but it was just as good if not better than the first! They even set it up nicely for another season.

Never Have I Ever -- This show was SO CUTE I need it injected into my veins. Even Andrew loved it! It was a cute, young adult comedy that just seemed to get it. So funny and unique.

Schitt's Creek -- I don't know why I waited this long to watch it!! It was a hearty binge but so much fun to watch (I'm even thinking of watching it again!). I think it's one of those shows you either love or hate, and I loved it. The story arc of the characters is spot-on amazing. All but the final season are on Netflix! Super easy binge since the shows are only 30 minutes, but buckle in because there are a lot of seasons!

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt -- We watched the choose-your-own-adventure special, and it was hilarious. It was so clever in terms of picking your own story. We loved the series so we were extra excited to have this special!!

Arrested Development -- Andrew and I are rewatching this show and it is so funny. Every line is smart comedy. I didn't finish originally after season three, so I'm excited to get back into it after some time away (I think I watched it in college??) with a better appreciation for the show and the characters.

Self Made -- This is a show chronicling the life of Madam CJ Walker (who I knew nothing about) the first African-American self-made millionaire. It stars Octavia Spencer (who I love) and it was really really good!! I think I like learning more about her and the start of her business. I had no idea she changed the game so much in haircare.

Space Force -- I started watching this and didn't like it. I love all the characters but the show just wasn't funny! I haven't finished it yet but got about halfway through before switching to something else.

#BlackAF -- This is a documentary about the creator of Black-ish (and the spin-off shows), Kenya Barris, and his family (his actual family but his wife is played by Rashida Jones!). It was cute! I know a lot of it was making jokes about his life and his family but it felt so real lolol.

DOCUMENTARIES:

Jefferey Epstein Filthy Rich -- The story is obviously really f-ed up but the documentary was good. Only three episodes, each an hour-long, that talks about Epstein, who he was, what he did, and talking to a lot of the survivors. I didn't know much about the story outside the big points so it was interesting (and disgusting) to learn.

Dirty Money -- Andrew and I started this last year but he never wanted to watch past the first episode. I decided to pick it back up and listen while I paint and I really liked it. Each episode talks about a different subject/scandal relating to the world's leniency and abuse of money and power. Some were really insightful!!

13th -- If there is one thing you watch from this list, please let it be this documentary. I'm upset I didn't watch it sooner but it talks about the racial inequality in the US and how the prison and justice system is biassed against Black people. Super eye-opening and should be required viewing for all!

MOVIES:

Spiderman into the Spiderverse -- Easily the best Spiderman movie out there. The animation is so cool. The story is fresh, funny, and the soundtrack is one of the best out there!! It won the Oscar for best animated feature if you don't take my word for it!

Uncut Gems -- This was dropped on Netflix a week or two ago and Andrew and I decided to watch it. I didn't really like it and I really didn't like the ending. It left me feeling super anxious and upset about the whole movie. BUT Adam Sandler was great in it.

Extraction -- I watched this because WHY NOT and it was a typical action movie with a pretty predictable plot. I wouldn't really recommend it.

Clueless -- Again, why not. Clueless is a movie for the ages and was fun to re-watch!!

The Help -- Understand that is is a white savior movie and not one to be looked at for trying to promote the BLM movement, but as a movie on it's own, it's pretty cute. Andrew had never seen it so we watched it together.

Taxi Driver -- I had never seen it and this is one of Andrew's favorite DeNiro movies. It was definitely a weird but overall really good! I think I was trying to figure it out, but he was one of the first true movie anti-heroes.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- Andrew had never seen it and I loveeee Brad Pitt. I think the movie has a wonderful message about life, death, and the in-between so we decided to watch it last weekend. It is definitely long and a little weird, but I still enjoy it.

The Social Network -- Andrew had never seen this either and it's one of the best movies!! I love Aaron Sorkin (the writer) and this is a great, easy, fun movie to watch about how Facebook got its start!

Currently, we're still trekking through Arrested Development but we also just started season two of The Politician!! The Politician and Hollywood are great shows as well if you have yet to see them!

What else should we add to the list?
