The Friday before Memorial Day, Andrew and I had a half day at work so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and check something off my NYC bucket list: ride bikes across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Our friends at Martone Cycling hooked us up with two really cool green bikes for the weekend and we were off! We got SO MANY compliments on these bikes it was unreal. People would actually stop to say something. How could you not? These are the most stylish bikes I've ever had a chance to ride! (This is the same company that makes the Lilly bikes!)

Riding through the city was a lot of fun and super easy -- all pretty flat, a ton of bike paths and perfect weather. It wasn't until we hit the bridge when things starting getting difficult.

First off, there were so many people in the walking lane AND in the bike lane. It was highly frustrating. Then there was that whole steep incline (like all bridges) that my body and calves weren't ready for. Riding up the bridge was really hard -- like harder than I was expecting. I was sweating bullets and we had to chill at the top for a bit to catch our breaths.

The way down (minus the people who have zero respect for bikers) was great -- super easy and really fun! Not to mention the views were killer :) Once off the bridge, we made our way to DUMBO (down under the manhattan bridge overpass) to hang out.

DUMBO has to be one of my favorite parts of the city. It's the coolest neighborhood! We found a spot in the park by the water to relax and lay in the grass. After about an hour of just hanging out, we decided to ride around a little more. We went over to Jane's Carousel (took these photos), picked up Luke's Lobster and ate on a bench by the water as we watched the sunset.

It was the perfect day in the city and while we'll never ride over the bridge again, we both agreed that we'll have to get back soon. Thankfully there is a little two-minute ferry that's that will take you right across the water into downtown.
